About
As with most homesteads, the goal is to feed our family healthy food that we grow and manage. Why?
God give us what we need, we just have to put in the work and because we know what the animals eat and how they are treated. Not everyone has that option, but we are able, so we do it.
We started with chickens. Chickens are easy, right? Sometimes. We tried chickens for a couple years with many ups and downs. Took a long break... then started again. This time we added sheep and a livestock guardian dog. That was the key... a LGD, not just any dog but one that was made to protect the livestock. Our chickens were not being hunted anymore!!!! So we started to add more critters. Some cow for milk, big mistake for a beginner homesteader, we decided that goats were more manageable and their milk is delicious!!! Pigs, so frustrating but we want pork, so we had to figure this out... decided red wattles, berkshires, and typical market hogs were not our thing, so the KuneKune's is what we settled on.
